Greenville Ballet School Introduce
For over forty years, the Greenville Ballet School has been a cornerstone of dance education in Greenville, South Carolina, establishing itself as a premier institution dedicated to the art and technique of Classical Ballet. Under the expert guidance of founders and directors Andrew and Merry Kuharsky, who themselves trained at the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School in New York City, this school offers far more than just dance classes. It provides a comprehensive and nurturing environment where students from age 3 to adult can cultivate a deep love for dance, develop exceptional technique, and grow into confident, expressive artists.
The philosophy at Greenville Ballet School is deeply rooted in passing on the accumulated knowledge of generations of professional dancers, teachers, and choreographers. While classical ballet forms the core of their curriculum, emphasizing beauty, grace, line, and developing physical strength, flexibility, and coordination, the school also embraces a wide variety of other dance genres. This holistic approach ensures that students receive a solid foundation in the "A-B-C's" of dance through ballet, while also being encouraged to explore and excel in diverse forms such as modern dance, jazz, tap, and hip-hop. The instructors are not only highly skilled in technique but also excel at fostering camaraderie and a genuine passion for dancing within a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
The lasting impact and positive experiences at Greenville Ballet School are consistently reflected in the glowing testimonials from their dedicated families. One parent enthusiastically shared, "Our 5th grader absolutely loves every minute she gets to spend at ballet! The teachers are excellent - they do a great job of teaching good technique and fostering camaraderie and a love of dancing at the same time." Another parent, whose daughter progressed significantly at the studio, stated, "Love this studio! My daughter is a ballet student as well as a member of the competition team - Greenville Jazz. Very solid training in the fundamentals, as well as much individual attention given to each dancer. With the wide variety of dance classes and styles under one roof, there is something for every dancer at every level. Before coming to this studio three years ago, my daughter was a girl who took dance classes...now, she's a DANCER. We are very happy here. :)" These heartfelt endorsements highlight the school's ability to transform students, nurturing their potential and instilling a profound appreciation for the art form, making it a highly recommended choice for dance education in South Carolina.

Apr 29, 2014 · Amy FortuneA truly welcoming environment! My daughter has grown as a dancer and feels at home at this dance studio. She loves that the teachers push them but do so in an encouraging way.
Mar 02, 2024 · SashaI have been here for four years out of my seven years of dancing, and it's one of the best decisions of my life. Not only offering ballet classes, they also offer modern dance classes. I have made so many connections, and we love the annual Nutcracker. As well as getting to perform in this beautiful classic ballet, we have a Professional Photographer and painter named Brad Walters taking photos during the whole performance of both The Nutcracker and the Spring Showcase and you can see your beautiful child(ren) while they pour out their hearts to this art. Especially for the company dancers, it's incredibly amazing to see the solo photos during the creative portraits session after the school performance of the Nutcracker. The teachers-Charis VanDonkelaar, Rebecca Lee, and Elizabeth Allen- (which have all been taught by Merry and Andrew, and have so many amazing achievements) comb through every dancer's technique during both classes and performance rehearsals, until everything is perfect as can be. The teaching has improved my technique so much. The costumes are gorgeous and VERY functional despite being historic. The soldiers' costumes are 60+ years, and the mice costumes are 100+ years old, both being used by professional companies. They look amazing onstage, along with the dancers wearing them. There comes a point where everyone at the studio becomes less friends and more family. My brother has been here for two years and he loves it as well. Thank you, Kuharsky's! ❤❤
Jul 29, 2023 · Naomi WaltersI have had children at this school since 2005. We had both children in other dance schools to begin with but found that Greenville Ballet was the best option for both girls even though they have vastly different personalities, body types, natural ability and drive. I think that alone speaks volumes about the type of dance education that children receive at Greenville Ballet. Andrew and Merry are the directors and have been the only ballet instructors at Greenville ballet that my daughters have ever had. So they know my daughters' strengths and weaknesses very well and can help improve the weaknesses and showcase their strengths. They teach the individual child and work to help each dancer improve at whatever level they may be dancing. They see the value in dance education for every dancer, whether that child simply wants to become more coordinated or wants to dance with the Royal Ballet. They care for our children and want them to be healthy, strong confident individuals. They stress the importance of commitment, but they embrace the committed child whether the child is a gifted dancer or someone who just wants to better him or herself. For that, I will be forever thankful that we made the decision we made.
