Expressions Dance & Arts Introduce
For families and individuals across California's vibrant East Bay, particularly in the Tri-Valley area, **Expressions Dance & Arts (EDA)** in Pleasanton, CA, represents a truly exceptional and beloved dance home. Founded in 2012 by Sandy Maloney, who envisioned an encouraging environment for her three daughters to celebrate dance, EDA has blossomed into a thriving studio under the current ownership and program direction of Veronica Langford, a passionate educator with extensive dance and youth development experience. Expressions Dance & Arts is more than just a place to learn steps; it's a family-friendly studio committed to fostering a genuine love for dance, building confidence, and nurturing each child's growth in a supportive and professional environment. Their mission is clear: to provide high-quality dance instruction while recognizing the importance of balance between family, school, community, and the arts. From the moment you walk in, as testimonials attest, you feel a sense of warmth and community, making it feel "less like a business and more like a big family that is cheering for every single child to succeed and, most importantly, have fun." Whether you're seeking recreational enjoyment or aspiring to join a performance team, EDA offers a welcoming and inclusive space for dancers of all experience levels and ages.

Expressions Dance & Arts offers a comprehensive and thoughtfully structured curriculum, catering to dancers of all ages and skill levels, from toddlers to adults. Their programs are designed to provide both foundational technique and creative expression across a wide array of dance styles, focusing on a positive and encouraging learning journey.
- Recreational Classes: These classes, typically 45 minutes to 1 hour long, are offered once a week for ages 2 to 18. They provide high-quality instruction in various styles without the commitment of formal recitals, often culminating in in-studio seasonal performances. Styles include:
- Jazz: Emphasis on strength, flexibility, kicks, leaps, jumps, and turns, often danced to pop music.
- Ballet: Focus on proper technique, body alignment, balance, coordination, grace, and movement, forming the backbone for other dance styles.
- Tap: Creating rhythms using feet as an instrument, learning basic technique for a musical dance style.
- Hip-Hop: High-energy, funky movements combining coordination and skill, including foundations of breakdancing, tutting, popping, locking, and gliding.
- Lyrical / Contemporary: Combining Jazz, Ballet, and Modern techniques to create movements that tell a story, focusing on emotional expression and detailed technique.
- Acro: Learning foundational skills of tumbling, limbering, and contortion, focusing on flexibility, balance, strength, and tumbling from Primary to Level 4 of the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus.
- Musical Theatre: A theatrical performance style combining songs, acting, and dance to communicate story and emotions through words, music, and movement.
- Combination Classes (Ages 2-7): Hour-long classes that combine Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Acro for younger dancers (Tiny Dancers, Tiny Dancers 2, Tiny Dancers 3, Mini Dance), encouraging coordination, rhythm, balance, spatial awareness, and social skills in a fun atmosphere.
- Recital Classes: For students aged 4-18 who enjoy performing on stage and are committed to building skills throughout the year. These classes include seasonal in-studio performances and culminate in a formal performance at their annual spring recital, a "positive experience" and "impressively well-run" event, as noted by a parent.
- Performance Team: An advanced program for dancers aged 8-18, by evaluation and invitation only, offering more intensive training. Team dancers perform at various events, including dance festivals, parades, charity benefits, dance conventions, theme parks, professional sporting events, and even internationally (e.g., Summer Stages Tuscany dance festival in Italy).
- Women's Fitness Class: A dedicated class for adult women, focusing on fitness and movement.
- Summer Dance Camps: Weekly themed dance camps for ages 3+, often with popular themes like Disney and Wicked, culminating in Friday performances.
- Workshops and Events: Throughout the year, EDA hosts fun workshops and special events, including optional adult/child dance opportunities, fostering community and extended learning.
- Private Lessons: Available for personalized instruction to refine skills or focus on specific goals.
- Elev8 Arts Program for Children with Special Needs: A dedicated program designed to accommodate and include dancers with special needs, providing a nurturing dance environment for everyone.

May 17, 2025 · Paramita RoyExpressions (EDA) means the world to both my daughters. My 8 year old and 14 year old have been taking classes for about 4 years now and they have improved a lot as dancers. There couldn’t have been a better place for my daughters to grow as dancers as EDA’s director and teachers guide and groom the dancers to their best and make the students stronger as performers, leaders and kind humans. Studio director’s amazing capability of managing events, classes and her personal touch makes a big difference to all students and student families. So happy to be part of EDA family.
