Their programs are built on a foundation of discipline, creative expression, and a celebration of movement.
- Early Childhood Dance Programs: Featuring classes like "Mini Movers" (ages 2-3.5 with a grown-up) for interactive play, music, and creative movement, and "Belle Isle Bunnies" (ages 3-5, no parent participation) and "Tiger Cubs" (ages 6-7) for an introduction to ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, and acro.
- Comprehensive Dance Curriculums: Offers programs like "The Designer Dance Program" (ages 8-17, for 4 years or less of training) covering ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, contemporary, modern, and acrobatic arts, with an emphasis on classical training.
- Diverse Dance Styles: Provides instruction across various styles, including Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, Acro Dance, Contemporary, and Modern.
- American Ballet Theatre (ABT) National Training Curriculum: As one of only 36 studios in Michigan certified to teach this rigorous and respected curriculum, and the only one in Detroit, DDC offers unparalleled ballet instruction.
- Horton Technique: Incorporates the Horton Technique, known for its strong, expressive, and dynamic movements, allowing dancers freedom of expression.
- Performance Opportunities: Students have opportunities to showcase their skills in various events, including a Winter Showcase and Spring Concert, providing valuable stage experience.

Detroit Dance Center® is distinguished by several key features and highlights that underscore its commitment to excellence and its unique position within the Michigan dance community. While there was a review that expressed dissatisfaction regarding a specific customer service interaction and policy communication, the overarching intent and established features of the studio, as presented publicly, remain significant.
- Certified ABT National Training Curriculum: A standout feature is its certification to teach the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum. It is one of only 36 studios in Michigan and the sole studio in Detroit with this prestigious certification, ensuring a world-class ballet education.
- Comprehensive and Structured Curriculum: Unlike studios with a "free-for-all" approach, Detroit Dance Center® prides itself on having "curriculums that are built in." This structured and universal approach ensures consistency in teaching and allows students to progress systematically, regardless of individual teacher changes.
- Emphasis on Early Childhood Programs: The studio has a unique niche in catering to toddlers and preschoolers, with "over 75 percent of our studio is under 6." This focus on younger age groups fills a gap in the market and provides a strong foundation for future dancers.
- Incorporation of Horton Technique: Beyond classical ballet, the studio integrates the Horton Technique, offering dancers a diverse and expressive movement vocabulary that encourages artistic freedom.
- Experienced and Dedicated Founders: The studio was reopened by three passionate dance instructors who have known each other for over 20 years, bringing a wealth of experience and a shared vision to the forefront.
- Commitment to Nurturing Growth: The studio aims to "nurture the skillsets of their current dancers as they grow and replenish them with newer dancers," indicating a long-term investment in each student's journey from beginner to advanced levels.
- Modern and Welcoming Facilities: The studio space is described as having "all the aesthetics and furnishings you would expect; a selfie wall, a large hardwood dance space, and racks full of costumes and shirts with their logo on them," creating an inviting environment for students.
- Community Engagement: The studio has actively engaged with the local community, including a grand opening attended by Mayor Mike Duggan, and participation in local events.

Detroit Dance Center® Reviews
I paid money to this place in may for my daughters birthday as a gift I got her a session in the mini movers class at the time .. I’d chosen a day I thought would be convenient for me. The skinny light skinned lady at the front desk told me I would be able to change it NO PROBLEM . ( she emphasized ) if there was any trouble. And there was trouble . they basically told me there was nothing I can do . Which is unfortunate because I have family that are long time customers with this company and this dance class is not cheap . I just thought they’d have a better plan in place considering this is a class with both the parent and the dancer . Buts it’s fine this is why I don’t support other black businesses they’re to inconsiderate. She ONLY offered me a refund because I wouldn’t take no for an answer. Left a totally disgusting taste in my mouth with her snarky remarks as if I was previously informed about the policy ..WHICH I WAS NOT to my knowledge I thought there would be no problem I called as a concerned really disappointed parent and they had no remorse . DONT GO HERE UNLESS U WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME .
Oct 06, 2024 · Taylor Joneswell i don’t believe yall sorry to hear anything as a matter of fact I believe that yall don’t care . And there was no misunderstanding. I completely understood everything that was said to me . Apparently the young lady at the front desk has a hard time understanding you alls policy herself because if she did she would’ve made sure that I knew there could potentially be a problem with capacity or whatever the case may be. she should have emphasized that considering I was paying for the class MONTHS IN ADVANCE . your absolutely right you all didn’t reach my expectations AT ALL . and in fact an refund WAS NOT offered until it was demanded because I was pissed that id waited all these months for my daughter to start just for her to not even be able to start . At the end of the day had it been made clear I wouldn’t be able to change her class I WOULD HAVE NEVER GIVEN YALL MY MONEY THAT EARLY IN ADVANCE ITS REALLY QUITE SIMPLE . I don’t need to contact yall directly I already spoke with someone directly and they were no help . Only thing I have respect for is that after I pitched a b^*!% I finally got a refund . But I should’ve never had to do that . Not to mention when my family came to get my refund yall told her I paid with a credit card when I paid cash which goes to show me that yall have a lot of things yall need to figure out. She literally had to chase my daughter’s grandma out the facility to say she made a mistake “oh she did pay cash” I was on the phone . But it’s okay Have a good day .

Feb 01, 2022 · Janell minesWe love DDC. My girls attend and are always ready to show up to class even my oldest who never wants to do anything, which means DDC is doing a great job. Keeping the kids attentive and ready to learn. All the instructors are always smiling and welcoming.
Jan 29, 2022 · DeAndrea ArmsteadI have 9 nieces and about 7 young cousins that attend the amazing Detroit Dance Center. The DDC is an amazing dance company led by 3 black women, that engages in every aspect of what they offer. They are here in Detroit for Detroit. A reflective mirror for our young girls. I encourage you to give a class a try as an adult while your child takes a trial as well! Fun for the whole family!
