I signed up with Dance U2 Studio for 12 months. I am taking Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, Merengue, Cha-Cha, Country Western Two Step, Country Western One Step, Waltz, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Kizomba, and Argentine Tango.Tony, is a passionate knowledgeable instructor. He teaches details of handwork and footwork that you can’t get from a group lessons at other dance venues. He has a special way of relating dance etiquette into life lessons and principles. He teaches the oneness in dance between two partners and oneness in the dance community. He prepares us to dance in any type of social dance in town!He also teaches us how to connect with our dance partners in all dimensions of human being; not only physically in dance moves, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
Dec 17, 2024 · Lee BriggsI attended this studio dance class several times in 2022.I found it on MeetupDOTcom as others probably did too. The MeetupDOTcom title and advertisement is quite misleading . The title was "tango" but they only do tango on Sundays for about 45 minutes and that is if you are lucky. You will likely only do a few basic steps and you would be better off learning tango steps from Youtube actually because you never make progress with the class. The Meetup says free tango but it is mostly not free (even the first day he expects you to sign up with a pay plan) and it is mostly not tango."FREE Sundays Argentine Tango dance Lessons" under the group Austin Argentine Tango and Social EventsDance U2 is the home website. Most of Sunday is spent on salsa and then some two-step and the instructor Tony just spends most of the time talking to newcomers to get them to sign up for classes rather than teaching. On weekdays, it is either salsa or bachata or more salsa. Tony talks about random stuff and his often half-baked philosophy tidbits on life and incoherent explanations rather than teaching dance so you often are stuck doing basic step unless some other guest teacher is there. Half the time, Tony doesn't even show up on time to his own class. There was more than one time that I just left after a little while as it wasn't worth my time and mood to stay longer. As for signing you up on the "free" day promised by Meetup.com, Tony told me it "would be 80%, even 90% discount" if I signed up today and yet later I went to the website and he actually just gave me the same price as the website has listed. There is a nice bunch of attendees at the class and it is nice to mix and chat with them but everyone would be better dancers if the main instructor ran the entire show better. Overall, good group of people there. Bad instructor. Misleading advertisement. If the class and meetup were not labeled "Tango" then I wouldn't give it a one star. But for everything else I would still give it a two star at best.
Sep 13, 2024 · Dav EI am now starting my second year doing both group and private dance classes. Tony's experience and time in the dance industry far exceeds most dance instructors in Austin. He teaches Salsa, Bachata, Two-step, Swing, Merengue and Tango. He is very attentive to details specifically with footwork, hand movements and connection. His pricing model works best when you bundle because learning takes time. Group classes at its peak was 20-25 people, so you got to rotate between partners and learn from more experienced dancers. This is also his full-time business and NOT a part time instructor.
Oct 15, 2020 · John LoyolaHaving experience with other dance instructors, Tony differentiates himself by his learning style. Tony starts with teaching-basic principles and developing good habits. The habits like counting out loud while stepping has built a foundation for me in moving forward with my lessons. Private lessons with Tony are a must if you want to succeed. I can attest to that. Tony has been able to notice mistakes that I am making that I would not otherwise know of. Plus, privately we can go over routines till I'm able to do them routine correctly.Furthermore, taking classes with Tony offers many opportunities to practice with a dance partner. Tony offers group classes to help take private lessons a step further. I have noticed that practicing alone can take you only so far and dancing in group classes I was able to correct small errors I was making when trying to lead my partner. If you want to lead, I highly recommend group classes. With Tony you will get an instructor that is knowledgeable in teaching both beginner and advanced salsa and who more importantly wants to see you succeed. One thing I really like about Tony is his patience. Tony always takes the time to re-demonstrate the routine(s) and never gets upset with me. Also, he helps me decipher many things that I find on the internet that I use to help me practice. I can say after a couple of months that my ability to dance salsa has more than exceed my expectations. I hope to finally step out on the dance floor at a club on my own in one more month.
Oct 03, 2017 · Ang MillerMy fiancé and I searched for wedding dance lessons months prior to the big day and we couldn't be happier we found Dance U2. Tony, the instructor, is awesome! He is very personable and passionate towards dance. We started with group classes and learned 2 step and salsa. Whether beginner or advanced, classes begin from learning the basics and then steadily progress. You'll get to work in partners and experience different styles of dance to make you more comfortable. If you're looking for one on one instruction, I highly recommend doing private lessons. Tony has 20+ years of experience and will personalize a dance that will suit you best. Helping you learn to dance is his passion and expertise. He listens to what you want and choreographs dances personalized to you. We've learned so much throughout our lessons and have found joy in dancing when everything is in sync together. Tony encourages you to ask questions, and if something feels awkward, ask and he will pinpoint mistakes that need correction. He's very accommodating and flexible with scheduling appointments and will work around your schedule.Dance U2 with Tony has been a great experience and investment for us and we'd recommend it to anyone in search of wedding dance lessons or simply to learn the art of dance in general.
