Central Park Dance Studio Reviews
If you are a family of color, avoid Ms. Alejandra's pre ballet class. My child has been in Ms. Margo's Sunday class since January without complaint or incident. My daughter has been getting a lot of party invites from friends. However, the events are generally on Sundays, so she has been missing out on the parties with her friends to attend dance on Sunday with Ms. Margo who is great and my daughter enjoys. I placed my daughter on a waitlist for a Saturday class opening. When the opening was available, I brought my daughter to attend. I had no idea this class was with Ms. Alejandra, a repeat teacher we had last year that we were forced to transfer from. Ms. Alejandra approaches me in a crowded lobby in front of other parents after class, asking me "why did I enroll my daughter in her class. Why did I transfer my daughter to her class." Goes on to tell me that my daughter is not a good fit for her class and how she won't be able to participate in the recital if she continues with her class. Mind you, the recital is in June, today is March 1st and the choreography hasn't even been practiced yet. There is plenty of time for my daughter to learn the choreography and I already paid for the recital. She told me do not bring my child back to her class and to have her continue in whatever class she was in before. My response was, my daughter has been attending this semester since January without incident. Why do you have a problem with her. I watched my daughter on the camera right now and she was not a disruption. Ms. Alejandra continued to just reiterate thay "it was not a good fit." As a parent, I'm not going to beg for my child to be in a space that she is not accepted, because at that point it is an unsafe space. It is common knowledge that a student in a new class with a new instructor will have some challenges acclimating for a few sessions and this was my daughter's first session (we're talking about kindergarten students by the way)... For some history, this is the same teacher who kicked my daughter out of her class last year, questioned why she was in ballet and suggested she be in hip hop. This school offers jazz, tap and other classes. However, Ms. Alejandra very specifically suggested hip hop for my very melenated child. My daughter transfered to Chtistina's ballet class last year after that experience with Alejandra. My daughter had a great time in Ms Christina's class, participated in the recital and had fun. Ms. Alejandra believes that certain people who look a certain way do not belong in certain places. Alejandra is an ugly person in side and I hope this school does something about this teacher who is a gate keeper. This was not an imagined experience or a person of color just being sensitive.
Mar 02, 2025 · Angelina KoneMy daughter has been dancing before she could walk. So, when she turned 2, we enrolled her in her first ballet class at Central Park Dance (CPD). Twelve years later she is still dancing 6-8 hours a week, with countless recitals in addition to six years of Nutcracker performances to her credit. She enjoys dance so much, it's in her blood, and that passion has been ignited and fueled by all of the amazing teachers she's had over the years at CPD. We love them so much and they have all become our Dance Family, both parents and teachers: Christina, Alejandra, Devon, Nancy, Trisha etc. And none of this would have been possible without the leadership & direction of the owners Maria & Mario for the last 40 years. Looking forward to many more years filled with Sugar Plum Fairies, Snow Queens, and classical music around our house - compliments of Central Park Dance.

Mar 03, 2025 · Joshua DoozCentral Park Dance is a wonderful family owned dance school that makes you part of the family. My daughter loves going there. All the instructors are professional and talented. The school cares so much about the students helping them grow in their technique and love for dance. My daughter has so much passion for dance and that’s because of CPD. I recommend this school to everyone. Plenty of different classes and times and additional opportunities to grow with their advanced classes and companies.
