Located in the heart of Dartmouth, this studio provides an environment where individuals of various ages and skill levels can embark on their performing arts journey. With offerings ranging from traditional dance disciplines to the increasingly popular aerial silks, the academy strives to cater to a wide array of interests within the performing arts.
The academy emphasizes a commitment to a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, where students feel comfortable pushing their boundaries and exploring new forms of movement. This focus on creating a positive space is frequently highlighted by many of its patrons. For instance, one adult student enthusiastically shared, "I’ve been coming to the silks classes for about a year and I take ballet 2x a week now. The teachers are so supportive. I am almost 40 and I am over 200lbs. They have been nothing but supportive and inspiring and encouraging. I don’t feel self conscious. It’s like a small family. My bestie also does silks with me. We have gotten so strong and my confidence personally has been so much better. I love the community. I love my teachers and i love being in class with old and new friends. It’s a great atmosphere for anyone any age and any BODY. I can’t say enough good things about this studio and its staff." This testament underscores the inclusive nature of the studio, highlighting its ability to build confidence and foster a strong sense of belonging among its diverse student body, regardless of age or body type.
While many experiences at the academy are positive, it is important for prospective students and their families to be aware that, like any developing institution, there can be challenges. One past customer recounted a deeply disappointing experience regarding their daughter's aerial silks performance. They stated, "My daughter has Autism but high functioning. I relayed this to Toni when we were “invited” to sign up. She was set to perform for their holiday showcase in their aerial silks class on Saturday 1/20/24... On the day of the showcase there were teachers spotting other students, helping other children out on the stage etc. During intermission i went to check on my daughter and at that point Toni approached me and totally blind-sided me stating that my daughter was not to perform on the silks due to a lack of focus. I was left in shock. Speechless. Disappointed. Confused because it was never mentioned in any of the multiple discussions we had leading up to the showcase." This review highlights a critical concern regarding communication and planning, particularly when dealing with students with specific needs. It serves as a reminder for families to engage in clear and consistent communication with the studio about expectations and any specific requirements their child may have, especially concerning performances or unique circumstances.
Despite this isolated negative experience, the overarching feedback often points towards a supportive environment for many students. The academy appears to be a place where individuals can feel empowered to try new things and push their personal limits in a non-judgmental setting. The diverse range of classes and the enthusiasm of many instructors contribute to an atmosphere where students can find their passion and develop their skills. For adults, in particular, the focus on body positivity and inclusive participation seems to be a strong draw, making it a welcoming space for those who might otherwise feel intimidated by traditional dance environments. It is clear that the academy is actively working to establish itself as a vital part of the performing arts landscape in Southeastern Massachusetts, striving to provide a positive and enriching experience for all its students.

Attitude Academy of Performing Arts Reviews
My daughter has Autism but high functioning. I relayed this to Toni when we were “invited” to sign up. She was set to perform for their holiday showcase in their aerial silks class on Saturday 1/20/24. Aerial silks is the whole reason we signed her up at this particular studio.I discussed with Toni weeks prior to the holiday showcase how excited we were to see her perform aerial silks, and that my daughter was equally as excited. We received emails relaying to us how pleased the studio was in her progress. 4 days before the showcase i again asked Toni how the aerial silks would be brought in and if my daughter should wear long sleeves to protect her arms on the silks for the showcase. Confused because it was never mentioned in any of the multiple discussions we had leading up to the showcase. I was also deflated because I had to now relay this message to my family who Traveled from a long distance away to see this show and her perform. You stated you are a woman of religion …of God.I am as well. John 8:32 says “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”The truth here is that you looked at the Thursday class and saw 4 students. Forgot Alexa was in the Monday class and only asked for 4 silks. And you stated Alexa was totally fine with not performing as she did not really understand it until Gary and i came up to you afterwards. Was this also the reason Alexa was omitted? Because you knew she would not understand it and the other students would get it more than her?Thats not really something a woman of God would do.The other alternative explanation would be you knew she was a safety concern or had a focus issue, or whatever excuse you need to say, and you lead us on for months thinking that she was going to be able to showcase something, or anything on the silks. . If it was a true safety issue, these are not decisions that are made “on the fly” to quote in your words. Safety is extremely important, and i would hope that would be a decision made well before 15 minutes prior to silks being showcased. i see that you are extremely thorough and jot down notes here and there. I find it hard to believe you skipped over communicating to us that she was not able to showcase anything SAFELY on the silks after multiple interactions between us. Further, as it was explained to me, this was supposed to serve as a pseudo-parent week type scenario since you have no cameras into the classrooms or parent week to see progress. You also stated to me that this was a chance for kids to get on stage that really have never performed before, and while alexa has been on stage before you omitted alexa that opportunity on the silks. If there was truly NOTHING she could do to showcase, and we have been attending for 6 months, what has she learned? You briefly bad mouthed her other studio for teaching her nothing, but yet in 6 months there was nothing she could do to showcase with you.Again, the truth shall set you free. You claim to be a Woman of God. God does not speak of lying to ever be an ok thing. And the truth would go a long with me and my family. We are more than understanding people. But to blind side us and lie to cover it up is even worse! Now we are left blind sided then us just being disappointed and thinking she has learned nothing, and we have spent good money. It appears they are trying to work out some kinks and grow- it is unfortunate my child had to suffer as a result of this process-but on the same note i would think that in the MANY years Toni has owned and operated a studio -communication and safety would come effortlessly. I guess not. Find a different dance studio.

Dec 05, 2024 · Los AngelaThis studio just isn’t for me. I took an intro to adult aerial class, which is hard to schedule. They make you call instead of just posting class times/schedules online like most of the places I’ve been. What really threw me was their “selling approach” after the class. The instructor pulls you aside individually and asks if you want to join the studio full time. She also offered me a deal and when I told her I needed time to think about it, she said “just so you know, this deal is no longer valid after you leave.” Which is a pretty aggressive selling technique after your first class. Also, why do they pull you aside individually? Whether it’s true/intentional, it makes it seem super sketchy. Are they telling people different prices? Are they only inviting some people to join?I see lots of good reviews so this very well may be a great studio but they did NOT leave a good first impression.
Sep 14, 2024 · Kimberly GagnetI started taking the aerial sills class at AAPA a couple of months ago and it’s been an amazing experience! Everyone is so welcoming and open and it makes for a very comfortable setting no matter what your level of expertise. I needed an outlet for caring for my body again after kids and this has been the perfect way to do that while also enjoying learning new tricks as my experience increases! Each class feels like a little family just enjoying each others company and lifting each other up when a new trick is learned/mastered! Empowering each other is another reason to join up and work towards your own personal goals!
Aug 20, 2024 · Melissa LennoxAttitude Academy of Performing Arts has a very inclusive, supportive, and comfortable environment. Which are all favorite qualities of this place. The staff here are precious gems. I take Aerial Silks class with Sarah. She’s little, fierce, and a supportive instructor. She ensures your safety throughout the class, always asks how everyone’s bodies are feeling, and she makes the class really fun! The one thing I enjoy about Attitude is how comfortable I feel there. I’m no dancer, I have no professional experience dancing, and i’m in my 30s. I don’t have a “dancer’s body”, but my instructor always applauds my efforts in class and reminds me of how strong I am. My bestie (who got me hooked on Aerial), takes ballet in addition to silks. She has nothing but great things to say about her instructor and how supportive she is of her because she too does not have a “dancer’s body”. It doesn’t matter your age, it does not matter your size. Attitude academy of performing arts encourages everyone to come dance! If you’re thinking of trying out a class, just do it. You will not regret it.
