This is my review 2 years after my original review. Yes, I'm still with the studio! It's the 6th year since my husband passed away, and I've now concluded that ballroom dancing actually helped me to find the new way to exist in my new life - I needed to be told where to put my feet, when, and where to look, how to turn right or left. Who knew a simple dance lessons were much more helpful than counseling!Anyway, this studio runs the most excellent ballroom dance programs - with the family business flair (the owners are a married couple with 3 kids). At first, I started once a week lesson only - I've never done any dancing until I came to this studio 2 years ago! But now I'm competing in a regional competitions. The instructors are absolutely fantastic - they know ins and outs of any dances, international vs American styles, competitive vs social, serious vs occasional or casual, Smooth dance like Waltz or Rhythm dance like Chacha ....Over the last 2 years, I've seen that the instructors @ this studio continue to be very professional, disciplined and lessons are well structured, with adjustments to each student's level, interest, goal, budget, so you can go fast/slow, casual/serious, social/competitive. Dancing is know to prevent fall accidents and even prevent dementia! It's the cheapest and the most fun way to get older for a better future (I am a RN so this is my investment for my healthier senior years)When I went to North East Coast regional competition in Boston earlier in June this year, with so many Arthur Murray studios students and teachers from multi states, I witnessed that our studio has a very good standard and we all competed very well against other studies, too! I know the owners of this studio are doing a great job, keeping the standard so high for so many years, which is no small task when they have 3 kids!I'm new to competitive dance but I've been given ample support on every aspect of my journey - I know I'm in the right place to continue dancing, whether I complete or not. I'm very grateful that they are in the heart of Rochester!!Anything negative? They close Saturday and Sunday - so I cannot dance those two days!! Also, they could be a bit bigger operation, I guess, but because of its relatively small studio size, it retains personal and cozy atmosphere. No shortcoming to go to competitions. There's no membership here, but many students feel like we are the members of this studio - some have been dancing decades! This separates this Rochester studio from other dance studios in the area - it's proven. Now I'm getting ready for a Florida regional competition inSeptember! And they all starts from basics - as all my dance teachers would say. I'm confident that I'm in the right place!***"**************Below is my original post******************This place is run by a married couple who are also great parents. Small enough to be personal, but large enough to be structured. They have great, very experienced instructors, too, and very diverse types of people all coming to learn how to dance. From salsa to waltz to hustle, from casual to wedding day special dance, from single men to single women, young and old, married couples, young children, many combinations. You can dance one or everything on the menu. I go there by myself once a week for a lesson and join a few group lessons a week (no additional cost), when I can find time. This prepares you to dance with strangers, because that can happen out there in the real world. It's great to be able to move around with music and know how to do it, even just a little? I plan on dancing until I'm 90, for a few more decades .... because that sounds like a very fun way to live. There are a few party events in a year, so you can dress casual, or a bit dressed up for the Friday dance party, too, which I have not yet tried. - Mohri Hime

The profound impact of this studio is eloquently captured in a long-term student's testimonial: "This is my review 2 years after my original review. Yes, I'm still with the studio! It's the 6th year since my husband passed away, and I've now concluded that ballroom dancing actually helped me to find the new way to exist in my new life - I needed to be told where to put my feet, when, and where to look, how to turn right or left. Who knew a simple dance lessons were much more helpful than counseling!" This powerful account underscores the therapeutic and life-affirming benefits that dance, particularly in such a supportive environment, can offer. It speaks volumes about how the structured yet freeing nature of ballroom dance, guided by expert instructors, can provide a profound sense of direction and joy.

The quality of instruction at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio of Rochester is consistently praised. This level of comprehensive knowledge ensures that students receive top-tier training, whether they are aiming for social proficiency or competitive success.

The studio's commitment to personalized learning is another key feature. "Over the last 2 years, I've seen that the instructors @ this studio continue to be very professional, disciplined and lessons are well structured, with adjustments to each student's level, interest, goal, budget, so you can go fast/slow, casual/serious, social/competitive." This flexibility allows students in New York to truly customize their dance journey, making it accessible and rewarding regardless of their prior experience or financial considerations. The emphasis on individual pacing and goal-setting ensures that every student feels supported and progresses effectively.

Beyond the dance steps, the studio offers significant health benefits. The reviewer, a registered nurse, insightfully noted, "Dancing is known to prevent fall accidents and even prevent dementia! It's the cheapest and the most fun way to get older for a better future (I am a RN so this is my investment for my healthier senior years)." This professional perspective validates the widely recognized cognitive and physical advantages of dance, making it an excellent investment in long-term wellness for New York residents looking for engaging ways to stay active and mentally sharp.

The studio's high standards are evident even on a regional competitive stage. "When I went to North East Coast regional competition in Boston earlier in June this year, with so many Arthur Murray studios students and teachers from multi states, I witnessed that our studio has a very good standard and we all competed very well against other studies, too!" This demonstrates the quality of training and the success that students can achieve, reflecting positively on the owners, a married couple with three children, who maintain these high standards. Their dedication ensures that students are well-prepared, whether for local social events or national competitions.

The inclusive and supportive nature of the studio fosters a strong sense of community. Despite a "no membership" policy, many students, some having danced for decades, feel like "members of this studio." This speaks to the personal and cozy atmosphere cultivated by the relatively small studio size, which prioritizes connection and personalized attention over mass appeal. For New Yorkers, finding such a welcoming and enduring community is a valuable asset.

Another couple's review further reinforces the positive experience: "My husband and I have been going here for over a year now; started as complete beginners and it's been a wonderful couples activity that we can do together. The instructors are thoughtful, caring, wonderful people, and know their craft inside and out."
