Allegro Ballet Academy offers an extensive range of services centered around classical ballet, guided by the renowned Vaganova method. Their comprehensive approach caters to dancers of all ages and abilities, from young beginners to aspiring professionals and adult enthusiasts.
Vaganova Method Ballet Training: A cornerstone of ABA's services is its adherence to the classical Russian Vaganova method. This systematic and progressive training technique, taught by instructors like Nurlan and Aygul who trained in Russia, is known for developing strong technique, expressive fluidity, and full-body coordination. It is suitable for serious students aiming for professional careers, as well as those seeking robust recreational training.
Classes for All Ages and Abilities: The academy strongly emphasizes inclusivity, welcoming "every age." They offer classes for "very young" students as well as adults, ensuring that "no matter how old or young, everyone can participate." This includes programs for those with "a lot of experience in ballet or none," catering to complete beginners through advanced dancers.
Youth Programs: While specific age breakdowns aren't detailed in the reviews, the mention of students starting "when I was very young" indicates a structured program for children, focusing on foundational techniques appropriate for their developmental stage.
Adult Open Classes: The studio offers "an extensive open class schedule for adults looking for flexible" training. This provides a valuable opportunity for adults to learn for exercise, personal enjoyment, or to continue their dance journey, regardless of their prior experience.
Performance Opportunities: Students at Allegro Ballet Academy have "multiple opportunities to perform" twice a year. This includes participation in "shows," which are crucial for gaining stage experience, building confidence, and showcasing learned skills. The owners, Nurlan and Aygul, are also "excellent choreographers," further enhancing these performance experiences.
Teacher Training/Mentorship: As evidenced by a long-term student transitioning into a teacher role, ABA provides opportunities for advanced students to grow into teaching positions, implying a mentorship program and continued learning even for instructors.
Personalized Attention: Instructors like Nurlan and Aygul are noted for taking "a real interest" in students and providing "immense encouragement and patience," suggesting a personalized approach to teaching that helps each student reach their "best dancer" potential.
Allegro Ballet Academy possesses several unique features and highlights that firmly establish it as a premier destination for ballet education in Pennsylvania.
World-Class Russian Vaganova Method Training: This is a paramount highlight. The instruction by Nurlan and Aygul, who trained in Russia and performed worldwide, brings an authentic and highly respected classical Russian technique to Wexford. This rigorous yet fluid method is revered globally for developing strong, expressive, and technically precise dancers. This is a rare and valuable offering for a local studio.
Exceptional and Dedicated Leadership: Owners Nurlan and Aygul are not only "excellent dancers and teachers" but also a "dynamic couple" who genuinely care about their students. Their commitment to bringing dancers "to a new level" and their "immense encouragement and patience," even in challenging situations (as evidenced by the student returning from a traumatic brain injury), showcase their dedication and passion.
Strong, Enduring Family Atmosphere: The studio has successfully maintained a "great family atmosphere" since its inception, described as a "feeling of family." This welcoming and supportive environment, where new and long-term members feel "so welcome," fosters a sense of belonging that extends beyond the dance floor, creating strong friendships and a supportive community.
Inclusivity Across Ages and Abilities: ABA's commitment to including "every age" and accommodating students "whether you have a lot of experience in ballet or none" is a significant feature. This welcoming policy makes high-quality ballet accessible to a broader audience, from young children taking their first pliés to adults fulfilling a lifelong dream.
Performance Opportunities for Everyone: The provision of "performances twice a year" for all ages and levels allows every student to experience the joy and growth that comes from stage presence, fostering confidence and showcasing their hard work in a supportive setting. The excellent choreography by Nurlan and Aygul further enhances these opportunities.
Holistic Development: Beyond technique, the academy emphasizes becoming "the best dancer they can be," suggesting a focus on artistic expression, musicality, and potentially even life lessons through the discipline of dance. The testimonial about dancing again after a brain injury powerfully illustrates the academy's role in holistic recovery and personal triumph.

Allegro Ballet Academy Reviews
Wonderful studio with a great family atmosphere and teachers who strive for excellence!I have been coming to this studio since it first opened, and I have learned so much during my time here! I started taking ballet when I was very young from the previous owner, a very wonderful woman who started the great family atmosphere that ABA still has. When she retired, Nurlan and Aygul took it over. When I started learning from them they brought me up to a new level of dancing that I had never achieved before and took a real interest in me. I began as a student learning from them and over the years they have given me the opportunity to become a teacher. (The learning never stops, even though I am now a teacher!) They are both excellent dancers and teachers (including Miss Allie!) and have so much wisdom to give each student about how to achieve proper technique of the Vaganova method. I know they want each student to become the best dancer they can be.I also appreciate the way every age gets included. No matter how old or young, everyone can participate in different classes for all ages and performances twice a year. I have been coming to this studio since it was Ballet Baroque and now Allegro Ballet Academy, and there has always been a feeling of family. Especially since there are people who have been coming much longer then myself and make everyone feel so welcome.I highly recommend this studio, whether you have a lot of experience in ballet or none. If you want to be a professional dancer, learn for exercise, or anything in between, ABA is the place for you. Come and join us to be a part of our shows or just try out a class!
Nov 16, 2017 · Laura TaylorAllegro Ballet Academy is a unique studio with students of all ages, training in the classical Russian technique. The owners, Nurlan and Aygul, are a dynamic couple who have trained in Russia and performed worldwide. They are also excellent choreographers who have provided us with multiple opportunities to perform. I am especially grateful to them, for their immense encouragement and patience when I returned to class after suffering a traumatic brain injury. My doctors did not know if I would be able to dance again. But, with their continuing support, I did dance again and even performed! I highly recommend this studio for dancers of every age and ability.
Sep 11, 2017 · Cindy SmetankaI have loved training with Nurlan and Aygul, the incredible teachers at this school. I have been training with them since I was 14 and I have never been disappointed. The amount of growth I have had as a dancer has been immense. They helped me reach my goal of becoming a professional dancer and next year I will be starting the next chapter of my life as a dancer with the Fort Wayne Ballet. And it is all thanks to Allegro Ballet Academy.
Jun 01, 2019 · Olivia LeyAllegro ballet academy has prepared me for a future professional career, through rigorous classes, and performance opportunities. Most definitely the best ballet training in Pittsburgh. Nurlan and Aygul are both stellar teachers with extensive backgrounds in high level ballet companies. Big thank you to Allegro for everything you've done!
Sep 09, 2017 · Zora YearwoodThis is my daughter's second year with ABA and they have far exceeded my expectations! She not only learns technique and terminology, but she is gaining an appreciation for ballet as an art form. She doesn't just learn moves to a dance from the Nutcracker or Swan Lake, but she learns about the characters and the story. She is learning how to feel the music and count beats and how to be part of an ensemble. The shows are very impressive and professionally done and the costumes are beautiful and age appropriate. The classes are organize and productive and fun! ABA truly is the whole package and a great place to start a lifelong love of ballet. The owners and staff clearly have a passion for dance and I feel very fortunate that they have chosen to share it with others by opening a studio in our area!
